Cash For Work Programme
In 2021 UNDP Indonesia appointed us as IT consultant for the pilot of the Ministry of Villages’ Cash For Work app in Bora village, Sigi, Central Sulawesi.
Technology is advancing fast — not only in cities but in the most remote villages too. As Nuryanto’s History of the Development of Information and Communication Technology (2012) notes, you can see this progress in the difference between the tools we used then and now, driven by human innovation and creativity.
To bring that progress to rural areas, Indonesia’s Ministry of Villages (Kemendes) and UNDP Indonesia ran a pilot project applying the Cash For Work (CFW) system to one of the ministry’s flagship programmes. UNDP Indonesia appointed PT Indotechsa as IT consultant for the pilot, responsible for introducing and field-testing UNDP’s CFW system.
The pilot ran in 2021 in Bora village, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, for around three months. We introduced the programme to the community and its users, provided hands-on support throughout, and held three evaluation meetings to review the project’s progress.
Cash For Work is a system for managing labour-intensive public works: the ministry funds a piece of work, and everything about it is recorded in the CFW app. Headquarters can then track progress — from the number of workers involved and their daily wages to the project’s total cost. The CFW app runs on Windows and Android.
